Purple Jesus setting the scene
From the ashes of the long held musical showcase “Man With A Band” we reinvented the gig as Vanapalooza.
On Saturday, 24 August, 2019, we performed for the first time at The Gasometer Hotel with Purple Jesus, Steady Garden, Fashion Dad, The DMTeasers, Kesmar, finishing with Tim Ayre’s Super Karaoke Band, performing with a mixture of grace, grit, and gusto, all hosted by award winning comedian ordinaire, Stuart Daulman.
The night kicked off at 6pm, entry was by donation, and punters enjoyed the tunes well into the evening.
Man With A Van partnered for the second year running with Australian not-for-profit, The Global Women’s Project, who received the $1,620 funds raised from the event in support of their five-year goal to aid over 60,000 women with tools and resources through a truly trailblazing campaign.
Producer and long time removalist, Tobias Priddle, explained his reasons for curating the gig as he did, “The idea of the night was for Man With A Van to showcase the talent within our organisation as well as raise money and awareness for the Global Women’s Project, so I approached bands in the MWAV community which had a significant female contingent and were great to dance to.”
The Global Women’s Project co-founder and CEO, Lauren Ryan, explained, “$1620 is enough to give 90 women in rural areas of Nepal 6 months free access to their local women's resource hub in order to access domestic violence counselling and support, vocational training, business loans and micro-finance, and a whole range of other services. That really is a phenomenal effort!!”
If you missed out this time, Vanapalooza will be back dancing up a storm next year, so stay tuned.
