Purple Jesus setting the scene

Purple Jesus setting the scene

From the ashes of the long held musical showcase “Man With A Band” we reinvented the gig as Vanapalooza.

Man With A Van's musicians shook The Gasometer Hotel on Saturday, August 24, with performances from Purple Jesus, Steady Garden, Fashion Dad, The DMTeasers, Kesmar, andTim Ayre’s Super Karaoke Band pleasing the punters.

The night kicked off at 6pm, entry was by donation, and attendees enjoyed the tunes and a few laughs generated by award-winning comedian and event MC Stuart Daulman.

MWAV partnered for the second year running with not-for-profit The Global Women’s Project, which received the $1,620 funds raised from the event. The funds have been put towards their five-year goal of providing aid to 60,000 women in need overseas in the form of tools and training.

Event producer and long time MWAV mover Tobias Priddle said he'd aimed to make the event a good time for a good cause.

“The idea of the night was for Man With A Van to showcase the talent within our organisation as well as raise money and awareness for the Global Women’s Project, so I approached bands in the MWAV community which had a significant female contingent and were great to dance to," he said.

The Global Women’s Project co-founder and CEO, Lauren Ryan, said the funds raised from the revelry would be put to excellent use.

"$1620 is enough to give 90 women in rural areas of Nepal 6 months free access to their local women's resource hub in order to access domestic violence counselling and support, vocational training, business loans and micro-finance, and a whole range of other services," she said.

"That really is a phenomenal effort!!”

If you missed out this time, Vanapalooza will be back dancing up a storm next year, so stay tuned.
